Elizabeth City, North Carolina

Responsible for producing precision parts through programming and operation of CNC and manual lathes and milling machines. Individual will be responsible for producing and/or repairing parts using both manual and automated equipment. The Machinist is responsible for maintaining quality and safety standards at all times, keeping accurate records and documentation, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews samples, drawings, or instructions to ensure accurate output
  • Plans the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of the job by studying and interpreting work orders, blueprints, schematics, and specifications
  • Selects the appropriate machine and settings for a given task
  • Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary and identifying issues
  • Takes precision measurements of output to ensure consistency with specifications and discards defects
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed
  • Ensures effective production operations and optimizes procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Vocational school or apprenticeship required
  • Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in using and programming manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.)
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers, height gauge, micrometers, etc.) to take accurate measurements
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals
  • Knowledge of metal properties and other materials
  • Outstanding mathematical skills and analytical abilities
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items

Benefits, Schedule and Pay:

Motion Sensors, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of speed sensors, including Hall Effect and Variable Reluctance Technologies with integral signal conditioning features. MSI has supplied sensors to customers across the globe since 1970, specializing in developing custom solutions for mission-critical applications in industries such as rail & transit, oil & gas, aerospace & space. As Director of Engineering, you will play the leading role in the development and completion of company design, cost improvement, and quality projects in a competitive sensors industry. In addition to interacting directly with upper management, you will plan and monitor work schedules and work with a diverse team of engineers. The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities and projects with company goals and objectives, providing expert guidance and support, approving newly developed policies from various departments, and maintaining positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in the company.

This individual should have demonstrable experience in managing complex technical projects and know how to build electronic-based products and features from scratch. As Director of Engineering, you will play both a strategic and a technical role inside the company. The strategic aspect includes setting goals for the team, hiring engineers, and prioritizing projects to align with the overall goals of the company. The technical aspect involves actively identifying requirements, developing new products, maintaining a clear project pipeline, and setting timelines. Responsibilities

  • Consult with staff-level personnel to create long-range operating and manufacturing goals specific to the needs of the organization.
  • Report directly to the President of the company.
  • Develop new products from concept to testing to production.
  • Propose new products and designs with and for the sales department.
  • Maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement best practice engineering methods.
  • Adhere to company quality standards per ISO 9001 and AS9100.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering teams and top management.
  • Support established organizational objectives by developing goals and strategies.
  • Create and present budgets and plans.
  • Find and implement ways to improve cost-efficiency.
  • Oversee development teams and their projects by setting requirements, goals, and timelines.
  • Monitor reliability and performance of all internal systems to suggest improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with security regulations & hazardous area classification certifications.
  • Prepare and manage the engineering department’s development pipeline.
  • Design strategies for future development projects based on the company’s overall objectives and resources.
  • Hire engineers and coordinate their training.
  • Review and update policies relevant to internal systems and processes.
  • Lead the company’s engineering effort in implementing a new ERP system.
  • Oversee engineering staff and ensure that they meet goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Master’s degree in engineering preferred.
  • Electrical Engineering degree preferred. Other engineering degrees may be acceptable if the candidate has experience and competence with electrical design and components.
  • At least five years as Engineering Manager or related experience required, or in a similar senior-level position at an engineering department.
